Welcome to Little Red Schoolhouse

Little Red Schoolhouse is a full service year-round child care center and preschool with two locations in Anchorage, Alaska - the "Last Frontier!" We provide care for children 6 wks to 11 yrs. old. Please browse through our pages--we hope that you will find answers to your questions here. If you have further questions, feel free to call us. One of our managers will be happy to assist you!

The LRS philosophy of education is based on assumptions about growth and development that come from investigations in the fields of psychology and education. The basic tenets of our philosophy are that:

	Each child is a unique individual and will develop best if that uniqueness is respected, and that each child has his own "style" of learning .
	Teachers must provide the children with experiences which will develop their intellectual ability --- teachers are people who challenge learners--this statement reflects our conviction that teaching has taken place only when learning has taken place.
	Play is an important medium through which learning takes place, and is an essential part in any early development curriculum.

Infants & Toddlers

Infants and Toddlers
LRS has a program designed to meet the needs of children ages 6 weeks through 30 months. We provide interaction and stimulation for a growing toddler's needs by supervising activities such as crawling, walking, toilet training, talking and certain aspects of social development. We also use the "Small Wonder" and "Creative Curriculum" program in our infant center. Ask our staff about it.

Pre-School

We love our infants and toddlers at Little Red Schoolhouse! Our caregivers keep their classes involved in various topics of interest to young children throughout the school year. All activities revolve around the current theme and develop basic skills and concepts in all areas of the curriculum, including language arts, science, pre-math realtionships, music, art and small and large motor development. The classrooms are divided into interest centers and the children are given both structured and "free choice" times during the day to explore interest of their choice.
